A good guide to finding your way around the law and its institutions is Geoffrey Rivlin’s “Understanding the Law” published by the Oxford University Press.

You can access most United Kingdom Statutes passed after 1988 at http://www.opsi.gov.uk/acts.htm but be careful! You will need good advice to make sure that your interpretation is correct.

Her Majesty’s Courts Service has a great deal of information about the courts and how they are organised at http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/ You can find out about registered real estate property from the Land Registry at:
http://www.landregisteronline.gov.uk

You can find out about UK registered companies by searching at http://www.companieshouse.gov.uk/

The UK government provides a lot of information about taxes at http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/ where you can download most leaflets forms and file on line.

If you access these sites be careful; you may need help in interpreting the information that you retrieve.
